The men’s 100m sprint final will be held on Sunday 14 August 2016.

What time will it be on?

The race will start at around 2.25am Monday 15 August BST (10.25pm local time in Rio).

BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, the BBC red button and the BBC Sport website will have live coverage of all events at Rio 2016.

Who are the contenders?

Despite injuring a hamstring in Jamaica’s national trials, Usain Bolt will defend his Olympic 100m title.

The six-time Olympic champion was given a medical exemption to make Jamaica’s 63-strong squad.

Bolt will be the main draw but he’ll face competition from compatriot Yohan Blake and the United States’ Justin Gatlin, who finished 0.1 seconds behind Bolt at last year’s World Athletics Championships.

Remember when…

Moments before the 2012 final started, a plastic bottle was thrown onto the track by a member of the crowd.

Ashley Gill-Webb, who was later found guilty of using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress, happened to be sitting next to Edith Bosch, a Dutch judoka, when he threw the bottle.

Bosch struck him on the back of his head with her hand after she saw him throw the bottle.
