Bobsledder Johnny Quinn may well have broken one of the many bathroom rules at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, after he became stuck in a toilet and was forced to smash his way through the door.

Trapped in a toilet within the athletes' village without a phone to call for help, he broke through the door, leaving a huge hole.

The American Team USA bobsledder posted a photo of the aftermath on Twitter, using the hashtag #sochijailbreak.

In a tweet, the 30-year-old wrote: "I was taking a shower and the door got locked / jammed ... With no phone to call for help, I used my bobsled push training to break out."

His tweet has been shared over 3,000 times.

Team mate Justin Olsen said Quinn had tried "everything" before he eventually burst through the door. He wrote on Facebook: "My team-mate and room-mate had an issue with our door. I knew something would happen.

"I wasn't there to help him out, at the gym. Trust me, he tried everything."

Former NFL and CFL player Quinn joined the USA national bobsled team in 2010 and is competing in his first Winter Olympics.
