Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Todd Martin yesterday earned the chance to win the top prize of pounds 800,000 in the Grand Slam Cup in Munich and then said he was so guilty about the rewards on offer that he was going to give some of his money to charity. The big-serving American fought back from one set down to beat Boris Becker, who lives a short drive from the Olympic Arena, 5-7 6-3 6-4 7-6, on the fast indoor carpet. "I think it was one of my best matches ever. I had to play fantastic to beat Becker at home under these conditions," Martin said after the match. He then made it clear that he would not be taking all his money home to Michigan, but would leave some to charity. "In a way I do feel guilty. I don't think I deserve this much money, " he said. "I think we are all making a ridiculous amount of money this week." In the other semi-final, Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia beat Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia in four sets.
