Marco Antonio Barrera, of Mexico, stopped Kennedy McKinney, of the United States, in the 12th and final round to retain his World Organisation junior-featherweight title in Inglewood, California. He has now won all 40 of his fights with 30 knock-outs after this fifth successful defence. Earlier, Johnny Tapia of Albuquerque, New Mexico, knocked out the Brazilian, Giovanni Andrade, in the second round to retain his WBO junior-bantamweight title.
