From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Paul Ince yesterday denied that he engineered his pounds 7.5m move to Internazionale, as suggested by the Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson.

"Paul Ince is not a sneak or a cheat or somebody who skulks behind people's backs,'' he said. "I didn't try and engineer any kind of move and it is total rubbish to say otherwise.

"I felt betrayed that anybody at United would think I would do anything deliberately to hurt the club. That shows me a lack of respect after five great years at Old Trafford."

Ferguson was widely quoted last week as saying that Ince told United staff after the FA Cup final that the Wembley match would be his last game for the club. But Ince says the claim was "garbage".

Ince reveals that the only time Ferguson asked him to stay was after the Inter deal had been signed.

Paul Gascoigne is expected in Glasgow today to complete his transfer from Lazio to Rangers.

Asa Hartford has returned to Manchester City, where he had two spells as a player between 1974 and 1983, as assistant to new manager Alan Ball.
