Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Ipswich, the defending champions and overnight leaders in the Premier Division of the Women's National League, lost 2-1 to First Personnel Sutton Coldfield on a day of shock results, writes Brian Tatlock. Second-half goals from Helen North and Lisa Lee did the damage. Balsam Leicester won 2-0 at Slough thanks to a penalty- corner strike from Sue Holwell and a fine solo goal from Gill Moss and replaced them in second place. Jane Smith scored a seventh- minute goal at Ealing to earn Chelmsford a 1-0 victory which moved the Essex club off the bottom at the expense of Clifton. They had to play without five of their squad, who were training with the Welsh National squad, and lost 2-1 to Hightown. Jamie Westerman, with a first-half strike, gave Whitchurch a 1-0 win over Exeter University. That earned them victory in the Sun Life West of England League and made them the first Welsh club to reach the English National League play-offs.
