Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

HOUNSLOW'S dream of completing the first ever league and cup double remained on course following their 3-0 win yesterday against Welton in the PizzaExpress National League with goals from Rob Thompson, Dave Hacker at a penalty stroke, and Jon Rees. On Saturday, in their Royal Bank of Scotland Cup quarter-final at Cannock, they fought back from going a goal down in three minutes with goals from Rob Crutchley and Thompson to win a keenly contested game.

James Duthie gave second- placed Southgate a 1-0 interval lead against Slough which Rupert Welsh increased to 3-0 thanks to some magical play from their captain, John Shaw, before Slough, in a spirited fight back, took advantages of errors in Southgate's defence to pull back to 3-2 with goals from Simon Nicklin and Julian Laxon. With luck they might have shared the points.

Havant's 4-2 defeat away to Firebrands, with Rob Hill scoring three times against his old club from three penalty corner attempts, allowed Old Loughtonians, with a 4-1 win against Trojans, to move into third place. The former England striker Nick Thompson scored three times after Paul Krishman had given them a 10th minute lead. Mark Tubb scored a consolation penalty stroke for the visitors.

East Grinstead and Teddington, quarter-final cup winners on Saturday, lost their way in yesterday's league games. At Saint Hill, Richard Gibson gave Grinstead the lead in the 10th minute with Bournville's Nick Conway scoring twice to give them a 2-1 victory. Teddington went down 1-0 at home to St Albans with Duncan Cogdell scoring.

Paddy Osborn, with a 38th- minute penalty corner goal, gave Reading the points against Isca at Exeter, and wrote his name in the record books as the first player to score 100 National League goals in the league's fifth season.

At Bisham Abbey, England's women followed up their 5-0 win against Ireland in a training match on Saturday with a 3-0 win yesterday. Sally Gibson scored twice at penalty corners after Kath Johnson, from a penalty stroke, had given England the lead.
