Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

HAVANT secured their third PizzaExpress national league title in four years when they beat Slough 4-0 at Havant College yesterday.

Calum Giles, with two first- half goals, set them on their way before two second-half efforts from Don Williams and Peter Nail sealed victory.

The match was a perfect send-off for Rob Hill, so instrumental in Havant's past successes, who has decided to retire at the age of 26 to concentrate on business.

With Canterbury beating St Albans 1-0, Slough must now win their postponed game at East Grinstead next Saturday to avoid relegation to the Second Division.

Rob Thompson scored his 100th national league goal when he struck twice for Hounslow as the former champions came from behind to draw 2-2 with Southgate. Bill Waugh and Robert Freeman had given the north London side a 2-0 lead.

Three goals from Nick Thompson and one from Chris Gladman gave Old Loughtonians a 4-1 victory against Firebrands and moved them into third place behind Hounslow.

In the Second Division, Cheltenham's 1-1 draw with Warrington means both clubs fill the two automatic relegation places while Doncaster,

4-2 winners at Edgbaston, will now contest the play-offs along with Harborne, who lost 4-3 at home to Surbiton, for whom Jon Molloy scored three times.

Guildford secured the title with a 2-1 win over Gloucester City. Ian Jennings' goal took his season's total to 34.
