Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

EAST GRINSTEAD fought back after going two goals down in 25 minutes to beat Hounslow 3-2 at Saint Hill, ending their unbeaten run in the First Division of the Pizza Express National League, writes Bill Colwill. The champions, however, still head the table two points clear of Southgate, who were beaten 3-1 by Stourport in the televised game at Birmingham University.

After Rob Crutchley and Jon Rees had given Hounslow a 2-0 lead, goals either side of the interval from Richard Gibson put Grinstead on terms, with Ben Barnes getting the winner from the penalty spot in the 54th minute. A goal from Stourport's Mark Harradine and two from David Knott in a five-minute spell in the first half saw off Southgate.

Two goals from Calum Giles, one from Stuart Avery and another from Derek Cunliffe gave Havant, who left the England international Rob Hill on the bench at the start of the game, a 4-1 win against Cannock to stay in third place.

In a game best forgotten Reading beat Indian Gymkhana 2-0. However, Paddy Osborn and three Gymkhana players were given temporary suspensions and Gymkhana's Davinder Rehncy was shown the red card for ungentlemanly conduct.

Ian Jennings, who scored 11 goals for MIM Indoors in Scotland on Saturday, flew south yesterday morning to score four times in Guildford's 6-3 win against Cheltenham which keeps them in second place behind Surbiton at the top of the Second Division.
