Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Old Anchorians, who failed to return to the National League in last season's play-offs, crashed to a 6-0 defeat at home to Chichester as the new ESL South Premier League got under way at the weekend. Two goals from Henry Strenes and one each from Ian Dougal, Neil Pendle - back form Surbiton - Brian Lock and Andrew Savory set up the day's biggest victory.

Another surprise result was the 4-1 defeat at Beckenham of Trojans, relegated from the National League at the end of last season. Two goals from David Knox and one each from Graham Butler and Simon Evans did the damage.

Peter Heyward and Richard Penrose scored for the second relegated side, City of Portsmouth, as they scrambled a 2-1 win at home to Bournemouth. James Grant was twice on target for newly promoted Eastcote, with James O'Shea getting the other as they beat Old Whitgiftians 3-2.

The draw for the second round of the EHA Cup was made yesterday with the National League Division One clubs coming in at this stage rather than in the third round as before. The Premier clubs will now come in the fourth round. Havant, past winners, have a local trip to play the Royal Navy.
