Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Heart of Midlothian face a nervous 90 minutes against Motherwell this Saturday trying to avoid being involved in Scotland's first relegation play-off.

After losing 3-1 at Hibernian on Saturday, Hearts now need to beat a visiting Motherwell side seeking a Uefa Cup place to be sure of avoiding the home and away play-off with the First Division runners-up. If Aberdeen win at Falkirk and Hearts only draw, the Dons will complete their escape on goal difference.

The First Division side who will feature in the play-off will be decided on the last day of the season - as will the title race. Raith Rovers need a point from Saturday's visit to Hamilton Academical to win automatic promotion. Dunfermline Athletic and Dundee are locked on 65 points, three behind Raith.

Greenock Morton should leave the Second Division as champions, while Montrose join Forfar Athletic in stepping up from the Third.
