Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. With the same perfect timing as one of his drives, here is Lee Westwood spectacularly photobombing a shot of Ian Poulter and his wife Katie at the Ryder Cup opening ceremony yesterday.
Usually it is Poulter pulling crazy faces during the Ryder Cup, when Europe take on the might of the USA, but here Westwood has beaten him to the punch.
Westwood, the world No 44, was not picked by captain Paul McGinley for the opening fourballs this morning, while Poulter and Stephen Gallacher took on Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed.
The talismanic Poulter has been Europe's leading points scorer for the past three Ryder Cups, and helped inspire the astonishing comeback at the "Miracle of Medinah" two years ago, when USA lead 10-6 over night, only for Europe to turn it around on the final day and win the tournament 14.5-13.5.
The event at Gleneagles continues until Sunday.
