THE inaugural President's Cup ended with enough suspense and excitement in Gainesville, Virginia, on Sunday to dispel most of its doubters, including a marvellous shot by Fred Couples to beat Nick Price, the World No 1, on the last hole to secure the trophy.
Couples' one-hole victory gave the United States 17 points out of a possible 32 and they eventually prevailed 20-12. However, the Ryder Cup-style competition between American and non-European international players still has some kinks to iron out, such as the absence of some of the International Team's potential top players, like Ernie Els, who had other commitments.
