From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Montgomerie steals into second
Colin Montgomerie gained the most remarkable par three of his career after having his ball stolen at the last hole during the third round of the Lancome Trophy in Paris. Montgomerie finished in 69 for a seven-under- par total of 206 to share second place two shots behind the Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez who shot a 67. However, in a bizarre moment, a woman spectator picked up Montgomerie's ball after his tee-shot at the 18th and threw it to a young boy in the crowd. Both had disappeared by the time Montgomerie arrived to play his second shot but officials allowed the Scot to play from where the ball had landed. The American, Mark O'Meara, who also shot 69, and New Zealand's Greg Turner (68) are tied with Montgomerie for second place.
