Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Two birdies in the last three holes enabled Tony Johnstone to maintain his overnight two-shot lead after three rounds of the South African Open in Durban yesterday. The Zimbabwean's three-under-par 69 gave him a 14-under-par aggregate of 202 and kept him on course for his second victory in the event. South Africa's Ernie Els shot 68 for 204, while another Zimbabwean, Mark McNulty, is third on 206 after returning a 70. The experienced South African John Bland, who lowered the course record to 62 in the first round, slipped to six shots off the pace by following a 74 with 72 in the third round. Jane Geddes shot a course-record 66 to join her fellow-American Muffin Spencer-Devlin in a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Australian Ladies Masters championship at the Royal Pines resort on the Gold Coast, Australia.
