Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

LAURA DAVIES'S affection for gambling has spilled on to the golf course and most of the time it is the rest of the field that ends up losers.

The British player's dominance of the women's tour continued over the weekend when she cruised to a three- shot victory in the LPGA Championship at Wilmington, Delaware, her second consecutive win and the second major of her career.

During the week, Davies took a couple of trips to nearby Atlantic City, where she experienced much less success on the gaming tables than on the 6,386-yard DuPont Country Club course.

The long-hitting Davies patterns her game after another player with a booming drive, John Daly. 'I always like to watch him play. It's exciting to watch people use two shots to hit the green on par- fives, taking chances and having fun,' she said.

Davies hit two booming drives far to the left of the 14th and 15th fairways. Undaunted, she sent her approach shots on to the middle of the green and managed to birdie both holes. That was enough to give her a second major tournament title, along with the 1987 US Open.
