Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Swedish yacht Ericsson 4, skippered by Torben Grael, with a third into Stockholm at the end of the ninth leg from Marstrand, is the outright winner of the 10-leg Volvo round the world race, winning the Fighting Finish trophy.

The leg was won by the American yacht Puma, with Kenny Read in charge, consolidating its position in second overall. The stricken Spanish entry Telefonica Blue, skippered jointly by Bouwe Bekking and Iker Martinez and with British navigator Simon Fisher, continues to make repairs in Inston having hit a rock soon after the start from Marstrand.

There is an inshore race on Sunday, in which T Blue is hoping to compete, before the final 400-mile leg to St. Petersburg.

Dee Caffari, Samantha Davies, and an all-female crew on board Caffari’s Open 60 Aviva, have started an attempt to break the non-stop round the British Isles record of seven days four hours. They were today making their way up the North Sea, having opted for an anti-clockwise route.
