Sailing: McDonald placed to deny Kostecki decisive win
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fighting for his third leg win of the round the world tour, and to give those locals who braved the conditions something to cheer, Britain's Neal McDonald, in Assa Abloy, was neck and neck with the overall leader John Kostecki in illbruck.
His yacht numbers two of Sweden's finest, Magnus Olsson and Klas Nylof, in its six-nation crew and that was enough to excite special interest, as was the return of Gunnar Krantz in SEB. He and Magnus Woxen have to counter-balance five New Zealanders.
With 50 miles to run, you could cover the top five with a handkerchief but, with just the final leg to Kiel to come, Kostecki was still in with a chance of recording a fifth leg win to put things beyond doubt. Kevin Shoebridge's attempt to seal a fourth third place was being hampered by an injury to Guy Salter.
