From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On course for three gold medals, the British squad here were yesterday gearing up for a final push over the last two days of the World Championships.

Ben Ainslie had another convincing win, only to slip to 11th in his second race. Nevertheless, he goes into his final race today in the Finn class at least assured of a medal.

Ainslie is enjoying a five-point lead over Rafael Trujillo as his fellow Briton Andrew Simpson slipped from second to third overall.

A second and a 10th for Leigh McMillan and Mark Bulkeley in the Tornado catamaran was also enough to keep them on top with three races to go.

But the most powerful performers have been Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks in the 49er.

Their worst result in 11 races so far is a sixth, which they can discard, and they have two wins and six second places helping them to establish a 24-point lead over their nearest rivals.
