Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

St Helens renewed their pursuit of Bradford at the top of Super League last night, helped enormously by the dismissal of Jerome Guisset in the first half.

Relegation-threatened Warrington were competing until the French forward was sent off for a high tackle on Anthony Stewart. After that they fell apart as Saints scored tries at will through gaps far too big to be explained by the absence of one man.

Saints wasted an early chance when Chris Joynt dropped Sean Long's pass with the line open, but they put that right when Keiron Cunningham's run gave Darren Albert his first try of the night.

Paul Noone's penalty cut the lead before a tackle from 18-year-old Dean Gaskell, making his debut, denied Stewart a second Saints try, although there could still have been a score if Tommy Martyn had dropped on the loose ball.

Warrington were looking sharp and Sid Domic was equally close to getting over the line after his own run had created the position. All their efforts were undermined, however, when Guisset was dismissed on 25 minutes.

Almost immediately, Saints exploited their advantage by scoring through Sean Hoppe and, within two minutes, Albert's break produced a Paul Wellens try.

It was three in four minutes when Paul Newlove sent Stewart over and Warrington's long wait for a win at Knowlsey Road was set to continue. Just to rub it in, Long's break set up Albert for his second before half-time.

The mayhem continued after the break with Joynt scoring after 30 seconds and again three minutes later. Newlove scored one and laid one on for Martyn before Albert completed his hat-trick with the most spectacular of Saints' tries, scored from 70 yards with some dazzling pace and footwork.

Stewart Hoppe and Paul Sculthorpe, who also kicked 10 goals, completed Warrington's misery, giving what could be a significant boost to Saints' points difference in the process.
