Saints seek semi-final reprieve for banned pair
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.St Helens have launched appeals against the suspensions that have put two of their players out of the Challenge Cup semi-final against Huddersfield a week on Sunday.
Dom Feaunati was banned for three games this week for his part in the Good Friday brawl against Wigan, whilst Jon Wilkin has been suspended for four matches for using his forearm in a high tackle at Bradford on Easter Monday.
Both players will have their appeals heard next Tuesday, which means that they remain unavailable for tonight's game against Salford. What will be interesting is how many of the 13 players who were left out of the Bradford game will have made miraculous recoveries from their injuries today.
In tonight's other game, Nick Scruton is in line to make his second appearance for Leeds, almost two years after his first. Scruton missed most of last season following a double fracture of the leg, but is in the squad to face Huddersfield at Headingley, along with Keith Senior and David Furner, who missed Monday's victory at Salford.
Huddersfield are third in the table and their former coach, Tony Smith, facing them for the first time, says he is delighted with the start they have made. The Giants will be without two important and in-form players in Stanley Gene and Ben Roarty.
Adrian Lam is in Wigan's 18-man squad for their Cup semi-final against Warrington on Sunday, but still does not have a new contract. Lam made his comeback from knee reconstruction on Monday and suffered no reaction but is playing on week-by-week terms. "He wants to make sure that everything is alright," said the Wigan chairman, Maurice Lindsay, who also denied fresh rumours that he is to sign the Australian centre, Terry Hill.
