From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Hunslet produced a stunning performance in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup at the South Leeds Stadium yesterday to derail Huddersfield's bid to for a world record 30th consecutive win. The Giants were second best in almost all departments as the National League Two side won 18-14 against the Super League newcomers.

Bryn Powell scored with a 70-yard sprint to the line and Jonlee Lockwood and Dan Briggs also crossed for the Hawks with Jon Liddell adding three goals.

"It really is a nice feeling," said their coach Roy Sampson. "And as the first try by Bryn Powell, you won't see a better try than that in Super League."

It was Huddersfield's first defeat since their loss to Doncaster at the same stage of the competition a year ago.

"I've got a lot of respect for their guys," said the Huddersfield coach Tony Smith. "We have got a lot of improvement to make but Hunslet played exceptionally well and deserved their win."

Holders Wigan completed their expected stroll over the amateurs of Halton Simms Cross from the North West Counties League. The Warriors scored 15 tries in their 82-3 win. The Simmies did take the lead after six minutes with a 30-metre drop goal from full-back Brian Capewell, who also hit the target with a first-half penalty.
