Moore diagnosed with Crohn's disease

Wakefield have revealed that their prop forward, Richard Moore, has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease, but still intends to resume his rugby career.

Moore had an outstanding season last year, but had been causing concern with digestive problems and weight loss this winter. Now a specialist has given his verdict and the club have moved to clarify the position.

"Although a very serious illness, Richard and the club view the diagnosis in a very positive manner, as it now means medication can be used to bring the condition under control," a club statement said. "Once that treatment has been carried out, Richard can recommence his Super League career."

Bradford have given up hope of having their controversial signing, Greg Bird, in the country in time for their opening Super League fixture against Hull KR on Sunday.

Bird faces assault charges in Australia in April, but the Bulls are counting on him being granted a visa to play here until then.

Warrington will be without the injured Martin Gleeson tomorrow night against St Helens, who have three teenagers, Matty Ashurst, Jamie Foster and Tom Armstrong, in the first-team squad for the first time.
