From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Australian Test forward, Jason Smith, has ended speculation that he might be ready to return home by agreeing a contract extension until 2004.
"To be able to retain the services of one of the best players ever to play the game of rugby league is a major coup," said Hull's director of rugby, Shaun McRae. "Jason's decision is not only uplifting for the club, but also a huge boost for the city."
Smith, who was sought after by Canberra Raiders amongst others, said that he wanted to be part of the club's move to a new stadium next season. "The support I have received at The Boulevard has been a major factor in my extension of my contract."
The Bradford scrum-half, Paul Deacon, the Super League's most successful goal kicker and in Great Britain's shadow squad for their trip to Australia this weekend, has also agreed a contract extension until 2004.
The Leeds player, Marcus St Hilaire, has been given permission to join the English rugby union Sevens squad for the Commonwealth Games and that there will be no contract for him at the club next season. He has already turned down loan moves to Wakefield and Castleford.
