Halifax bring back Cardiss as Halliwell is dropped
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 21-year-old has played in 10 of Halifax's last 11 matches after being recalled last July from loan spells with Wakefield and Warrington.
He played in Halifax's notable 26-22 opening win over London Broncos, but has been replaced by full-back Daryl Cardiss, who is set to end a nine-month injury lay-off.
"I've dropped Danny for internal disciplinary reasons and he will have to fight his way back in," said coach Tony Anderson. "I'd like to keep the reasons in-house. We have rules at the club and if anyone steps out of line they have to pay the price."
Cardiss, who has undergone a knee reconstruction, will be playing his first Super League game since last June.
"It's good to have him back," said Anderson. "He had a run-out with the Under-21s last week and looked pretty good.
"He knows he's quite lucky to be getting the chance. He probably wouldn't have made it if I hadn't had to take action against Danny. I would probably have kept the same 17. Danny's misfortune is good fortune for Daryl."
The Australian Test centre Chris McKenna has been ruled out of Leeds Rhinos' Challenge Cup quarter-final with Hull on Sunday week.
McKenna suffered a slight tear to his pectoral muscle in the first half of last Saturday's fifth-round win over London Broncos which will rule him out for two to four weeks.
"Chris is in quite a bit of pain at the moment but we'll have to check how the injury responds to treatment," said assistant coach Mick Cook. "He will almost certainly be out for a fortnight."
Prop forward Danny Ward has also been ruled out of Sunday's Super League match at Warrington with a compound fracture to his finger, but could play against Hull.
There was better news for Leeds over Andrew Dunemann who is fit after recovering from a bang on Saturday
