Racing: O'Brien sends out reserves for Ascot
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Aidan O'Brien removed his outstanding colts High Chaparral and Hawk Wing from the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on 27 July 27 at yesterday's forfeit stage. The Ballydoyle trainer has other plans for the pair with the dual Derby winner High Chaparral being saved for an autumn campaign to include the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Hawk Wing is likely to stick to a mile and a quarter in the International Stakes at York following his victory in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
O'Brien still has five horses in the £750,000 Ascot showpiece – the five-year-old Bach and the three-year-olds Century City, Creekview, Della Francesca and Quarter Moon. Godolphin are responsible for seven of the 25 horses to stand their ground. They include big guns Sakhee, last year's Arc winner, and Grandera, successful in the Singapore Airlines International Cup and the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Shippy Ellis has replaced Terry Norman as Kevin Darley's agent. The appointment, which comes into effect from today, means that Ellis adds the 2000 champion jockey to a stable which comprises of Philip Robinson, Gary Bardwell, Olivier Peslier and Gerald Mossé.
Speaking at Newmarket yesterday Ellis said: "Kevin approached me to be his agent and I must say I was flattered. It's a privilege to book rides for a man who's prepared to ride anywhere at any time and not just stick to the top races.
"Kevin is a real class international jockey whose record speaks for itself. With Gary Carter going to Singapore, which I was very sad to see happen, Kevin is a more than adequate replacement and I look forward to working for him."
