From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A summer Triple Crown and Grand Slam for top-level middle-distance Flat horses, with a prize reported to be £5m, is to be unveiled by the British Horseracing Board next month in an attempt to boost the sport's profile and counter the growing riches offered abroad.

It could also fill a void caused by the decline in interest in the traditional Triple Crown for three-year-olds – the 2,000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger.

The series would be open to older horses as well as three-year-olds. Races that may be included in the first leg in June are the Derby, Oaks and Coronation Cup, or the Prince of Wales's Stakes. The second and third legs in July would take in the Eclipse Stakes and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, with York's International in August completing the Grand Slam. Success in the Triple Crown would bring £1m and victory in the Grand Slam a bonus of £4m.
