Small fields look inevitable at both this weekend's meetings and the course at Bonvilston, near Cardiff, is being watered for today's rearranged Countryside Alliance Club fixture.

Khatani, beaten a neck in the ladies' open on this card last year, is entered in the men's event (3.45) this time and is a horse who must have fast going. He has really hit form now the ground has dried out and followed up last month's Rhydygwern win under a 7lb penalty at Trecoed last Saturday.

There were only 23 runners at Upcott Cross in Devon on Wednesday, but the going should be better on the old moorland turf at Bratton Down tomorrow.

Worcestershire-based Shuil Monty will be fresher than most in the intermediate (2.35) as he was having only his third outing when unseating Adrian Wintle three out when in contention at Bredwardine last month. His second to Coole Venture at Cold Harbour is better form than the rest of the field have shown.

Surrey raider Allow Dancer looks a stand-out in the restricted (4.20) after his hunter-chase third at Folkestone over an inadequate two mile five furlongs.

FIXTURES: TODAY: Countryside Alliance Club at Bonvilston. (2.0). 4m W of Cardiff, near A48, 5m from exit 33, M4. TOMORROW: Tiverton Staghounds at Bratton Down, north Devon. (2.0). Alongside A399, 11m N of South Molton, 3m S of Blackmoor Gate.
