Sir Chris Hoy won track World Cup gold in Melbourne yesterday, but Victoria Pendleton had to settle for silver during the second day of competition.
Four-time Olympic champion Hoy was victorious in the men's Keirin, with world and Olympic champion Pendleton finishing second to Australia's Anna Meares in the women's sprint. Ed Clancy claimed a bronze medal in the six-event men's omnium. Hoy, who was beaten in the opening knockout round of the men's sprint at last month's European Championships, left nothing to chance, winning his heat and second round races to reach the final unbeaten.
The Scot, 34, claimed victory ahead of Teun Mulder of the Netherlands and France's Mickael Bourgain in the final.
Pendleton progressed from the semi-final ahead of Olympic bronze medallist Guo Shuang of China, who did not finish the first race, to set up a final meeting with Meares, the Olympic silver-medallist. Meares won the first two races, meaning that there was no need for a decider.
