Conor McGregor will have an x-ray on his left wrist to determine the extent of the injury he suffered while knocking out UFC 194 opponent Jose Aldo, with a possible six-month suspension in the pipeline for the featherweight champion.

McGregor rendered Aldo unconscious just 13 seconds into their main event bout on Saturday night, with the Irishman becoming the new UFC Featherweight champion having held the interim title before the fight.

UFC 194 could prove to be one of the most expensive main events in terms of injury suspensions, with McGregor the biggest name on the casualty list issued by MMA Fighting after receiving information from the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Newly crowned middleweight champion Luke Rockhold could face a similar length of time on the sidelines with a left foot/ankle injury, while the man he defeated in Chris Weidman needs x-rays on both feet.

The event, which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, looks set to be one of the highest-selling pay-per-view events of the year, although the main event was over as soon as it started with McGregor knocking out Aldo with his first meaningful punch after catching the Brazilian with a left-hand counter.

It’s worth noting that a number of UFC fighters return to the Octagon a lot sooner than their medical suspensions state, with many given shorter time limits with months added on as a precaution.

Should McGregor receive good news over his wrist injury, then he can be cleared to resume competing immediately, and the 27-year-old is clearly in a positive mood as he is already targeting further fights in both April and July of next year, according to his coach John Kavanagh.

Rockhold has been ruled out of any contact until the 03 January and out of competition until the end of the month even if he gets medical clearance from a doctor, while Weidmann has been suspended for even longer with the former champion unable to resume contact until the end of January.
