Conor McGregor’s most controversial moments, from backstage brawls to racism allegations

The two-weight UFC champion is no stranger to controversy

Conor McGregor turned himself into New York City police on Thursday, in the wake of an extraordinary backstage melee that disrupted one of the biggest UFC cards of the year.

Video footage showed McGregor throwing a hand truck at a bus full of fighters following the UFC 223 press day, in an apparent attempt to reach long-term rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor was processed and no charges had been filed as of Thursday night.

The New York Police Department said McGregor threw a hand truck at a bus causing minor injury to an individual on the bus. At least three fights at Saturday's UFC 223 card have been scrapped as a result of the incident. Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg were both injured as a result of broken glass, while Artem Lobov was pulled from the card for his role in the altercation.

“The organisation deems today's disruption completely unacceptable and is currently working on the consequences that will follow,” the UFC said in a statement. “Individuals involved in the incident are not welcome at tomorrow's ceremonial weigh-in or Saturday's event at Barclays Center.”

McGregor hasn't fought for UFC since November 2016 and was stripped this week by UFC President Dana White of the 155-pound championship he had never defended. White also said this week he did not expect McGregor to attend Saturday's fights.

But this is far from the first controversy that McGregor — the first man in the promotion’s history to simultaneously hold world titles in two different weight classes — has been involved in.
