From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Pride of place in play-off games over the weekend went to Slough women and Reading who claimed places in the Premiership play-offs at East Grinstead on 5 May.

Epsom women and Old Georgians, meanwhile, top the Inter League play-off tournaments after two rounds with the two going through to the National League next season.

Slough needed a stroke barrage, which they won 4-2, to beat Olton and West Warwick to claim their final berth after the teams had been locked in a 1-1 draw. Olton now face Canterbury, who beat Ipswich 3-0, to decide the second final place.

Reading, with the New Zealander Ken Robinson scoring twice, notched up their second 4-1 victory over Cannock inside two weeks. Cannock must now beat Loughborough Students next Saturday if they are to secure a final place.

Students beat Surbiton 3-2 with a golden goal from Tim Benford. The unexpected result means England's new coach, Jason Lee, will delay his playing retirement for at least another game. The Students also learned yesterday that their bid to host next year's European Indoor Championship, in which they will represent England, has been successful. Lee would be very influential in Students' success in this tournament if England can spare him.

Goals from Jenny Edwards and Ali Allcock took Epsom to a 2-1 win away at Letchworth while James Tindall scored two second-half goals for Old Georgians as they came from behind to beat Whitchurch 2-1.
