Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Simon Ramsden, with four penalty-corner conversions, secured a 5-4 victory for Cannock in their second game in the England Hockey Super Cup play-off at Guildford yesterday to assure the Staffordshire side a place in next season's European Club Championship. In an exciting game, Loughborough Students, with their Irish international Mark Gleghorne scoring twice, always stayed in contention.

Reading came from behind against Guildford to draw 2-2. Loughborough, who have been unfortunate so far, will start favourites in their game against Guildford this evening with a win likely to give them the second European place.

There is still all to play for in the women's competition except for pointless Ipswich. In their game yesterday Ipswich, survived a double suspension of their England international Leisa King, to take control against Chelmsford with a 15th-minute goal from Cathy Gilliat-Smith before the Essex side hit back to score twice in three minutes in the closing stages with goals from Lisa Wooding and Tracy Wilmore to snatch a 2-1 victory.

Canterbury then beat Fyffes Leicester with a 2-0 victory against the double league and cup champions. Their South Africans Jen Wilson and Sue Webber scored their goals.
