Donlan's decisive try

Leigh Centurions edged back to the top of the Northern Ford Premiership yesterday with an unconvincing 28-22 win over the struggling York Wasps.

While Leigh's title rivals, Hull KR, were going down 20-10 at Workington, Stuart Donlan's try two minutes from time clinched victory for the Centurions after Wasps had looked set for an unlikely victory at Huntington Stadium.

York led 22-16 with just over 10 minutes to go, but the Centurions scrum-half Kieron Purtill capitalised on a mistake by his opposite number, Gareth Dobson, to score his second try, and Paul Wingfield added the conversion to tie the scores.

That set up a frantic finale, and it was full-back Donlan who popped up with the vital score.

Workington surprised Hull KR with their best performance of the season. Two tries in the space of five minutes by substitute Jamie Beaumont and William Blackburn - both converted by Cook - pushed the hosts clear.

Doncaster Dragons thrashed Lancashire Lynx, running in 15 tries on the way to an 82-4 victory, while Dewsbury remained in touch at the top with a 42-24 win at home to Widnes Vikings. Keighley also kept themselves in contention in the leading group with a 66-6 dismissal of Barrow, in which they scored 12 tries.
