Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Henry Cecil had one hit and one near miss at Lingfield yesterday with a pair of fillies that appear to have a bright future. Fully Invested was given a quote of 50-1 for the 1,000 Guineas by Victor Chandler after coasting home in front on her debut. Yorkshire Rose was only second to Paiyda but is also a decent prospect for next year.

Cecil's assistant, Harry Dunlop, said: "Fully Invested has been a little awkward at home, but behaved herself beautifully here. She could have a bit of a future and this will really please the boss, who is in rehabilitation after back trouble. He should be back racing at the Champion Stakes meeting."

* A full-sister to dual Irish Classic winner Desert King made IR650,000 guineas at yesterday's Orby Sale at Goffs in Kildare. Mrs Chryss O'Reilly, who races extensively in Ireland and France, is the new owner of the daughter of Danehill.

* Brian Meehan's Potaro, 8-1 on the Pari-mutuel, beat his six rivals with ease in the Group Three Prix Eclipse over six furlongs at Saint-Cloud yesterday.
