Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sprinters Craig Pickering and Tyrone Edgar have been named in UK Athletics' finalised Olympic squad for Beijing. The 100m runners had been in limbo while waiting for the outcome of Dwain Chambers' ultimately unsuccessful appeal against his Olympic ban.
Steeplechaser Andrew Lemoncello, 110m hurdler Allan Scott and high jumper Martyn Bernard complete the men's team. Stephanie Twell and Jenny Meadows, who set personal bests in Paris on Friday, are added to the women's team. Just six days after winning the world junior 1500m title, Twell took a second off her personal best at the Paris Golden League meeting, clocking 4min 05.83sec. Meadows lowered her 800m lifetime best to 1:59.11.
The women's squad also sees Montell Douglas and Laura Turner added to the 100m, Jemma Simpson joining Meadows and Marilyn Okoro in the 800m, and Susan Scott selected in the 1500m.
