Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The double Olympic champion will be the leading attraction in her first appearance in a British vest since her victories in Athens. Holmes, an easy winner over 1,500 metres at the meeting in February, will compete over the same distance in the match against Sweden, France, Russia and Italy. "I am still competitive and I still want to win," said Holmes, who has been swamped with media commitments since returning from Greece.
She added: "It has been such a hectic time since Athens and since I last raced at the end of the summer. It has been great fun, but I'm an athlete and I can't wait to get back on to the track."
Holmes could attempt to win the European Indoor 1,500m title in Madrid next March, which would see her compete in the European Trials in Sheffield on 12 and 13 February.
The 34-year-old has also committed herself to competing in the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham on 18 February.
