Germany have won the World Cup after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final at the Marcana.

The match was billed as Lionel Messi against the Germany machine. The machine won but they needed their own little master Mario Gotze to score the only goal of the game, which came in extra-time.

Despite the lack of goals it was an entertaining final. Germany were arguably the better team but Argentina perhaps had the better chances.

But who were the stand-out performers in Rio de Janeiro? Did Messi do himself justice in the biggest game of his life? Who was the best midfielder among Germany's talent array of players?

Who do you think was the man of the match? Let us know in the comments below.
