Gareth Southgate has revealed why he is yet to select who will be England’s captain at the 2018 World Cup.

Jordan Henderson has captained Southgate's side five times, with Harry Kane leading the team on four of his six appearances under Southgate and Eric Dier three times.

But Southgate has not yet confirmed who will be wearing the armband in Russia.

Southgate has yet to reveal who will lead England as captain this summer but says he will “think about that in a bit more detail” when the players are together.

“We've been through a process of developing leaders within the group, the players taking more responsibility,” said Southgate.

“We're trying to get more voices within meetings, within the team, allowing people the space to grow and not feel it's the captain's responsibility to speak first.

“Probably when we get the players together we'll think about that in a bit more detail but, for me, it is more important we have more leaders.”
