Transfer news: Valencia announce £26m fee with Tottenham agreed for Roberto Soldado - but it's not yet a done deal

Fee has been agreed although talks are on-going between Spurs and the player's agent

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Valencia striker Roberto Soldado according to the Spanish club’s president Amadeo Salvo.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the striker, with manager Andre Villas-Boas admitting his interest in the 28-year-old last week, but claiming it was at the time just interest.

The deal though is now believed to be edging towards completion, with Villas-Boas eager to add to his attack after Jermaine Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor were largely inconsistent last season.

Salvo had warned Tottenham last week that they would need to trigger Soldado’s release clause to speak to the striker, with a bid of £26m enough to activate the buy-out clause.

He admitted that Valencia had no intention of selling Soldado, but it seems he is now resigned to losing the man they signed in 2010 to replace David Villa.

"The agreement with Tottenham is total," Salvo is quoted as saying today at a restaurant in La Patacona by lasprovincias.es.

"A problem has arisen with the (player's) agents," he added. "(If it is resolved) he will go."

Soldado has been identified by Villas-Boas as key signing having scored 24 goals in La Liga last season.

Should the deal be completed, he will join Brazilian midfielder Paulino, who signed for £17m early in the summer, and £7m winger Nacer Chadli in making the move to White Hart Lane during the transfer window.
