Real Madrid hope to re-sign Alvaro Morata if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club for Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain

Real Madrid are preparing to bring Alvaro Morata back to the Santiago Bernabeu should Cristiano Ronaldo leave the club next summer.

The Juventus striker’s contract infamously has a buy-back-clause, which would allow for a return to the club which developed him as a youth player.

According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, despite Morata’s protestations that he is happy with life in Turin, the 23-year-old would be prepared to return in the event of Ronaldo’s departure.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United’s interest in Ronaldo, the current Balon D’Or holder, is reportedly genuine and poses a threat to his six-year association with Los Blancos.

Although Madrid are determined to retain the services of their star player, their resolve will be tested and Morata’s return is being lined up as a contingency plan.

Morata has previously confirmed the existence of a buy-back-clause in his contract, telling Radio Marca last month: "What the papers say about there being a buyback clause for me to go back to Real Madrid is true.”

"However, some things are more important than clauses and a person's happiness must be considered.

"If we win the Champions League final at the San Siro then I will walk back to Turin."

The young striker scored Juventus’ crucial away goal against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League, which ultimately proved to be the decisive difference between the two sides.
