Mohamed Elneny’s imminent move to Arsenal from FC Basel has been confirmed, by his Basel team-mate Albian Ajeti. It has also been reported that the Gunners will announce the completion of the deal either today or tomorrow.

"I'm happy for you Mohamed El Nenny success in Arsenal," the 18-year-old wrote on a Facebook post alongside a picture of the two together.

Only yesterday, in a statement on their website, Basel explained the midfielder's absence from training because "there could be a transfer in the coming days".

A fee of around £7.3m has been agreed for the 23-year-old and a medical completed - the only hold up is receiving international clearance for the Egyptian, although the issue is expected to be resolved.

Elneny is set to sign a four-and-a-half year deal at the Emirates as Arsenal look to complete their first signing of the January transfer window.

His expected arrival would mark Wenger's first outfield signing for nearly a year. The Gunners only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer.

The last outfield player to sign for Arsenal? Defender Gabriel from Villarreal last January.
