Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils boss, reportedly enjoys a good relationship with the German’s father Hermann, who was a youth coach at Bayern Munich during his spell there, giving United fans hope.
Discussing the situation, he 27-year-old said: “There have not been any talks in any direction. Everything's still very quiet. I am relaxed about this issue because I don't see that I am pushed for time.” Hummels endured a torrid 2014/15 season in Jurgen Klopp’s final year as manager at Dortmund but his fortunes have improved this season.
United have reportedly turned their attention to Valencia’s Andre Gomez as their pursuit of Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez falters. Diego Simeone, the Atleti boss, refuses to lose another key player to the riches of the Premier League, forcing United to look in other places. That search has thrown up Gomes, the 22-year-old Portugal international and former Benfica star.
According to DiMarzio, the player’s agent is desperate get his client a lucrative move to England. Following the 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on Tuesday night, Van Gaal was typically coy about his transfer plans, but the Dutchman has admitted he would like to strengthen this month.
Edinson Cavani has allegedly told Paris Saint Germain “it’s me or Zlatan Ibrahimovic” and has, according to Gazetta dello Sport, informed the club he is prepared to leave the Parc des Princes over the matter. The pair have long fought over top billing in the French capital but the 28-year-old has rarely discussed the option of leaving publically.
Van Gaal is known to be an admirer of the Uruguayan international and the striker would fit the bill as United pursue a high-profile target. The Old Trafford hierarchy want to sign a heir to Wayne Rooney as the England striker nears the end of his career, one to ease the burden on Anthony Martial. Talk of Cavani joining, however, remains speculative at best but his current reported stand-off provides food for thought.
Ex-United captain Nemanja Vidic has ripped up his contract with Inter Milan after struggling to secure a place in Roberto Mancini’s first team squad. The 34-year-old lifted five Premier League trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford but has seen his career decline at the San Siro.
Making just 23 appearances since 2014, the Serbian has been linked with West Ham and Crystal Palace in recent years. But a move to Major League Soccer seems more likely now as the Champions League winner winds his career down. He retired from international football in 2011 after making 56 appearances for his country.
Red Devils target Joao Moutinho has reportedly informed his agent Jorge Mendes to find him a new club. The Monaco midfielder has long been linked with Valencia but reports last summer suggested United were keeping tabs on the Portuguese star. The Metro suggest Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini are possible departures at Old Trafford in the near future, leaving the door open for the 29-year-old to fill the void at the centre of Van Gaal’s midfield.
