Sweden defender Andreas Granqvist has admitted there is “a kernel of truth” to reports linking him to Manchester United.

The 33-year-old made a name for himself at the 2018 World Cup where he scored twice as his side reached the last eight of the competition.

Granqvist currently plays for Swedish side Helsingborgs but, according to recent speculation, United have expressed an interest in signing the veteran on a short-term basis in January.

And after Helsingborgs’ 1-0 win over Falkenbergs FF on Sunday, the veteran defender confirmed that United have contacted his agent, Martin Dahlin, to enquire about his availability.

“There is indeed interest,” he said. “This time there is a kernel of truth [to the reports].

“I am honoured that I am linked to such a large club, and if there is a concrete offer in January, then both the club and I will accept that, but that is currently not the case.”

Granqvist also made it clear that he has not had any contact with United manager Jose Mourinho.
