Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Liverpool made an inital bid of £24.5million for the 26-year-old, but the Ukrainian club are believed to value him at closer to £38m.
Bleacher Report state that Christian Benteke is disgruntled at his lack of playing time and is already looking for a way out of Liverpool.
The Belgian arrived from Aston Villa for £32.5m last summer but has barely played since Jurgen Klopp arrived, starting just three games this year - and two of those came against Exeter City in the FA Cup.
Benteke will wait until after Euro 2016 to make a decision.
After Liverpool's latest goalkeeping masterclass (or not), the Reds are again linked with a new stopper.
This time it's Genoa and Italy keeper Mattia Perin, a highly-rated 23-year-old who is seen by some as a successor to Gianluigi Buffon when he eventually retires.
The Daily Telegraph report that Klopp is looking for a new No 2, with Adam Bogdan failing to impress. Simon Mignolet signed a new five-year deal last week and is expected to stay as the No 1 (not that Liverpool fans agree with that...).
