Liverpool will need to recruit well if they are to build upon their fantastic, albeit trophy-less, season this year and manager Rodgers has said how he wants only well-established players to add to his squad.
Southampton’s centre-back Dejan Lovren and Chelsea full-back Ryan Bertrand are, allegedly, targets to improve the Reds’ defence while Bayern Munich’s Swiss attacker Xherdan Shaqiri is a possible back up for key target Adam Lallana.
As the Reds faltered towards the end of the season, their defence came under scrutiny and Lovren, 22, who has performed well since joining Southampton from Lyon last summer, is a reported target for Rodgers, although he would cost considerably more than the £8.5million that Saints paid last June.
Shaqiri is being reported as a possible signing should their pursuit of Lallana fail.
Bayern’s 22-year-old winger scored five times in 17 league appearances for the German champions this season and would cost around £10million, considerably cheaper than Southampton’s captain.
Any move for Bertrand, 24, will be difficult to complete with Chelsea likely to be reluctant to sell to a fellow ‘big club’ and with negativity surrounding the loan deal of Victor Moses, who made just six league starts during his year with the Reds.
Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno, who played in their Europa League victory over Benfica recently, is another possibility at left-back currently being scouted by the club.
Rodgers, who is keen to get any business done before players head off on World Cup duties with their respective countries, also wants to sign a striker, with Swansea’s Wilfried Bony a possibility.
Bony is likely to cost upwards of £16million but has scored 17 goals in a stellar debut Premier League season.
