Liverpool’s protracted pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira has received a boost after the Ukrainian club’s manager said he wouldn’t stand in the his way. The Reds have failed with two bids to land the 26-year-old in recent weeks, the most recent amounting to £28m, but are likely to return with a third offer closer to Shakhtar’s valuation.

“I don’t want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship,” Mircea Lucescu told FourFourTwo. “Our president knows when it is the time for Teixeira to go. He’s worth €50m (£38m). He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, [Angel] Di Maria for example at Paris Saint Germain. Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.”

Chelsea could face sanctions if they are found guilty of fielding an ineligible player when Bertrand Traore - 16-years-old at the time - represented the under-18s side in an apparent breach of Fifa regulations. The Premier League champions, according to Press Association, could even face a transfer embargo if the incident is investigated.

A Fifa spokesperson said: "We are not in a position to comment on any investigations that are ongoing so as not to compromise the process, nor do we provide any comments as to whether or not any investigations are under way." Chelsea, meanwhile, insist the Burkina Faso-born star was subject of an option agreement meaning he could play in friendly fixtures. The Blues hope to complete a deal for former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato on a six-month loan this afternoon.

Arsenal have been frustrated after Napoli rejected their offer for Serie A sensation Jorginho, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. The 24-year-old contemplated leaving in the summer after being informed he was surplus to requirements but has since become a key player for the Italians, firing them towards the top of the table.

Napoli are extremely reluctant to sell any of their stars this month as they launch a surprise title bid under combustible manager Maurizio Sarri. It is claimed, however, the Gunners may return for the Brazilian in the summer if they still feel they require midfield cover at the end of the season.

Loic Remy will reportedly cost Newcastle United up to £12m if the North East club want to add the Frenchman to their armoury. With Chelsea expected to announce the arrival of former Brazil international Pato today, the Stamford Bridge outfit are willing to let their second choice striker leave to get first-team football before the European Championship in the summer.

The Magpies know Remy well after a successful loan spell in the 2013/14 campaign saw the 29-year-old score 14 goals in 26 appearances at St James’ Park. Former manager Alan Pardew, now at Crystal Palace is believed to have shown an interest too but he may be satisfied now the Emmanuel Adebayor capture has been wrapped up. Andros Townsend, meanwhile, is expected to complete his £12m switch to Newcastle from Tottenham today.
