Thomas Lemar, who is understood to be a transfer target for Liverpool, was left out of Monaco’s matchday squad on Wednesday night.
Leonardo Jardim, the Monaco manager, rotated his side for last night’s 3-2 Coupe de France defeat to Olympique Lyonnais, with Lemar among those rested.
The 22-year-old’s omission heightened speculation that he could move to Anfield this month, but it is understood that Liverpool remain unlikely to complete a deal for Lemar before the 31 January deadline.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of Falkirk’s highly-rated young full back Tony Gallacher.
According to The Times, the 18-year-old, who has previously been linked with Barcelona, will arrive at Anfield as part of a £200,000 deal.
Elsewhere, there is hope forLazar Markovic, who may finally find a way out of Anfield after the best part of three years in the wilderness.
The Serbian winger has not appeared for Liverpool since Brendan Rodgers’ time in charge, but according to the Daily Mirror, Lokomotiv Moscow are prepared to offer Markovic an escape route.
After Markovic spent last season on loan at Sporting and Hull City, Liverpool are understood to favour a permanent move but could allow the 23-year-old to leave on a temporary basis if Lokomotiv pay a loan fee and cover his wage demands.
