From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 23-year-old winger spent last season with Sporting and Hull City but failed to secure a permanent move to either club and returned to Anfield in the summer.
Markovic has not made a single appearance for Liverpool this season but could not end his long exile by moving on temporary basis.
According to the Daily Mail, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, who have took Liverpool’s Divock Origi on loan, will compete with Carlos Carvalhal’s Swansea for Markovic’s signature.
Liverpool may also be willing to let youngster Ovie Ejaria leave on a temporary basis, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Sunderland are interested in taking the 20-year-old midfielder, who has found first-team opportunities limited at Anfield this season through injury.
Fellow U-23s squad member Lloyd Jones is set to leave on a permanent basis according to the Echo. Luton Town are ready to take the 22-year-old centre-back away from Anfield.
Liverpool are, otherwise, not expected to be heavily involved on transfer deadline day.
Jürgen Klopp rubbished speculation suggesting that Danny Ings may be allowed to leave on loan in unorthodox fashion on Tuesday night, after the 3-0 win at Huddersfield Town.
“No chance Ings is on the market,” he insisted. “Only if I'm unconscious.”
