There were a few big money deals in the Premier League, including Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea, Wilfried Bony to Manchester City and Gabriel Paulista to Arsenal.
But it was the touted move of Lionel Messi to the Premier League, and specifically to Chelsea, that really got everyone excited.
It never looked likely to happen, although the player himself appeared to do his best to whip things up, at one stage suggesting he didn't know if he would still be at Barcelona next season.
That led to a huge buzz over a possible £200m transfer and analysis by Twitter shows it was the most discussed rumour on the social media site.
It seemed Manchester United fans were excited by some of the talk surrounding their club, with three proposed moves involving the Red Devils featuring in the top five. Reports that David De Gea could be bound for Real Madrid was the second most talked about rumour whilst the possible arrivals of Mats Hummels and Gareth Bale also stoked conversation.
Among the others in the top 10 involving Premier League sides were Paul Pogba to Chelsea, Rickie Lambert to Aston Villa, Danny Ings to Liverpool, and the potential arrivals of Morgan Schneiderlin and Winston Reid at Arsenal.
Despite all the talk, none of the deals came off. Until the next window...
